This is one of the strangest comics I’ve ever read; which is probably because I read the “Jonathin Quackup of the Planet Weralt” fantasy comics first. It seems like a much older, alternate reality-story about the same character, but might actually a sequel to the newer comics.
This particular comic is about the superhero Jonathin Quackup battling Madre Mutare, a viral villain who can infect others and copy their appearances (reminiscent of “The Thing From Another World” Comics). The overall design and abilities of the villain is very creative, whilst the hero is somewhat less developed.
The artwork and storytelling is a lot cruder than “Jonathin Quackup of the Planet Weralt”, which is understandable, given that this comic is over 10 years older. That is no problem in and of itself, but the resolution is pretty bad. Could be because it’s an older file that doesn’t work well with newer PDF readers?
This comic has a short introduction page about the background of the character, which seem to mesh with the newer comics. The setting of this particular comic is a modern lab, though, and the character works as a journalist. How and if this all ties together is a bit of a mystery, which might be revealed in the newer Weralt stories.
Overall, this story might be fun for completists and collectors, but for everyone else: Just go straight to the new comics series.
